Stretched across Tuscany's dolci colline, Siena is one of the most stunning places to revel in medieval Italy. The town is a miraculous time warp where its residents rule and time comes to a complete halt; the present becomes the past.
The city was founded not by the grandchildren of the first king of Rome, but by the first emperor of it; Augustus, who made it a Roman colony with the name of Saena Julia, and then in 1860 Siena became one of the provinces of Tuscany.
